Analog cables are used to transmit low frequency audio signals and to connect microphones, speakers and many other audio components.
|
|
|
Primarily digital signals can be transmitted with this cable in an AES/EBU-, S/P-DIF- and DMX-format. They are stated with the respectively required surge impedance of 50, 75 or 110 Ω. Please observe the surge impedance required for you peripherals, as stated in our data sheets. Almost all of our digital cables can also be used as a high quality analog cable and to connect scanners, mixing boards, HiFi-components and a number of other studio units

Basically every 75 Ω cable is SDI capable – provided you don‘t exceed a certain length. The decisive factor for the maximum cable length is the attenuation at the relevant frequencies; the max. recommended damping should not be greater than 30 dB on 100 m. The bit rates for HD-SDI are 1.485 Gbit/s and 2.970 Gbit/s with Dual Link HD-SDI (SMPTE372M) and 3G-SDI (SMPTE424M). For long transmission paths glass fibre systems are used as well. It is difficult to make general statements about functioning transmission distances as they always depend on the quality of the device interfaces. On paper this can be calculated as follows: 3000 divided by the given attenuation at 3 Ghz over 100 m = transmission distance in metres.For example, with 43 dB the result would be a maximum cable length of 69 metres. HD-SDI signals are used in the production sector to transmit high-resolution video signals (these are used e.g. for the viewers of an HDTV broadcast). In addition to A/V transmission, HD-SDI also supports metadata signals such as time codes, text etc.

SOMMER CABLE mostly uses oxygen-free (OFC) or low-oxygen copper. For your information: Copper has a specific resistance of 0.0178 Ω per meter, at a diameter of 1 mm². The purer the metal, the smoother it is (high bending cycles!) and the more consistent this value will remain over the years.

The SC-ASTRAL-LLX has a patented construction of carbon screens around solid wire and insulation plus a protective polyester foil underneath the PVC outer jacket. This prevents material fatigue and results in consistent damping values for years to come. Conventional SAT cables usually lose their good damping values during installation and assembly: the original round shape of the skin PE insulation becomes oval and the solid conductor loses its centre position even with only slight bendings. The two carbon screens of the SC-ASTRAL-LLX stabilize the solid conductor and the skin PE insulation. Thus the cable maintains its round shape and electrical values, even after installation. This type of construction also enabled us to achieve super low damping values and a shielding factor of 120 dB! Hence the SC-ASTRAL-LLX also meets the HD-SDI standard and is suitable for long installation distances on large SAT receiving systems.

Cables for installation are in the first place designed for longevity and safe transmission, especially for ELA-technology. They can be wired inside buildings over long distances, but also inside audio units (amplifiers, speakers, etc.) or control cabinets. If you have special fire protection requirements, please observe the halogen-free/ PUR and FRNC symbols.
