Article Description
By means of DIP switches on the bottom of the device, it is now possible to make precise adjustments to impedance and capacitance. The listener no longer has to compromise and can adjust the phono preamplifier individually to almost every commercially available pickup system. The switching between MM and MC is, as before, on the back of the device.
The PHO-701 was given a USB connection. Each record player can now also be connected to a computer using the PHO-701 and thus offers the possibility to digitize the recordings.
As with the predecessor, the power supply takes on a complex, external power supply. Humidification is avoided and the phono unit is supplied with "clean current". In the second, similar case, the phono preamplifier PHO-701 is situated. A 12AU7 tube, which acts as a double triode, was used in the signal path. It plays a decisive role in the sound. The selective selection of the other components also results in a signal with very low noise.
The PHO-701 has the same dimensions as the power supply, but it is equipped with the well-known sight window that opens the view of the tube. High-quality components (e.g., Nichicon or Wima) further improve the parameters of the noise margin and gain.
